Parental Distress Tolerance: Discovering Your Parenting Super Powers

Laura Collins Lyster-Mensch is an internationally-known eating disorders advocate. She founded F.E.A.S.T. (Families Empowered and Supporting Treatment of Eating Disorders), a worldwide non-profit organization that aims to empower families in supporting loved ones with eating disorders.  She recently retired as F.E.A.S.T.'s Executive Director to focus on other endeavors.  Laura has lived the experience of supporting her daughter through an eating disorder and authored the celebrated book, "Eating with Your Anorexic: A Mother's Memoir."  She also hosts the podcast "New Plates," where she interviews international experts on eating disorders about inclusion of parents in eating disorder treatment.

Lifting Up Siblings and What they Need Most

Since her sister Kacy’s death in 2002 from bulimia, Kym has been speaking, blogging, and advocating on the issue of eating disorders, especially focusing on the needs that siblings have when eating disorders occur in a family. She has consistently noted that sisters and brothers tend to be sidenotes in articles, organizational education, conferences and treatment. In 2017 she made it her mission to give the sibling experience a voice by creating the website


Bridget Whitlow, MS, LMFT. is a licensed psychotherapist who serves children, adolescents, adults and families in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has clinical experience in the treatment of anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, LGBTQ issues, and self-criticism. She served as the clinical director of outpatient services at New Dawn Eating Disorders Recovery Center in Sausalito and is currently in private practice. Bridget has held leadership positions with the Academy of Eating Disorders and the San Francisco chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
